Starshine on The Firmament of Varberg Art

Excerpts from an article : Hallands Nyheter . May 12. 2000-10-10

( The part left out, is a discussion of important issues within art altogether and is not relevant here..)

Peter Gustavsson can with his paintings examplify thoughts and questions that remains - unanswered - throughout all imagining. Picture-elements within the paintings "Seabottom" and " The Warmth of Ocean-light" support each other to a congenial fullness of poetry, light and meditation over nature. The bright figurations in "Seabottom", gives you a greeting from cliffpaintings and the forms of coralreefs; created at random: and carries a resemblance to the symbolism found within Tapies sand-pantings.

The painting "Spring" is poetic and airy; open, but still well composed and articulate. The hints of darkness - that seems to descrice the transition from ground to water - gives the picture a necessary and very fine precision . "Behind The Blue" takes the leap into a more outspoken abstraction; maybe because of the "clean" sometimes dryly white surfaces. A very beautiful painting with an active balance!

The paintings "Redemption", "Signum" and "Stella Maris - The Blue" are all related to " Behind The Blue" with their relatively strong colours; activating the white and the broken up forms depicting the borderland between water and maybe rocks.

Stars twinkle but all the same shine with a powerfull light: thatīs what I think Peter Gustavsson do on the firmament of Varberg art!
